Fall is the most beautiful time of year in Maryland. Below are just a few of
the pictures we've taken between September and November.
 |
Linda took this at Seneca Lake State Park up in Gaithersburg
one weekend in September. We stopped there on the way home from a trip to
Home Depot, believe it or not. It was just your average Saturday of
hardware-buying and home-improving, until we noticed, Hey, it's fall!

Sure, fall has some brilliant yellows, some fiery reds, and
some deep browns, but how often do you see pastels like this on trees? |
 |
These leaves were among the first to turn on a tree very
near the lake, where the photos above were taken. |
 |
As we drove out of the park, we tried to get a picture of a
tree in every color we saw... here's the yellow one. |
 |
A week or two later, we took our annual trip to Shenandoah
National Park in Virginia to see the colors with our friends Bart and
Tara. This barn was on the way.

Sometimes I think a tree can't decide what color it's going
to go. If you look closely, you can see both yellow and red in these
leaves. When I lived in Florida and would see this sort of thing in
pictures, I always suspected it was fake. It isn't. |
 |
The trees at Shenandoah were a bit past their peak, but
the scenery was beautiful anyway. |
 |
Near the end of our trip to Shenandoah, we found this
wonderfully "enchanted forest" where the lighting was just right
for photography. |
 |
This is practically in our own back yard, in a playground in
Rock Creek Park. |
 |
We don't know where the heck this tree is. |
 |
Now that most of the leaves have fallen, the work begins.
Last weekend I began to rake and blow leaves off of our lawn. A new
experience for us here in Maryland is having the county come around two or
three times in the fall and suck up all the leaves from the edge of our
yard into a big truck. The hard part is getting our leaves to the edge of
the yard. Since I made this pile, I've created four more the same size. |
