This is Brandy as an adult in our back yard in Florida, looking very much like her German Shepherd ancestors. She is part shepherd, with (we think) some collie and perhaps a little bit of Lithuanian.

Here's the same dog shortly after I got her in North Carolina. She was about seven weeks old when this was taken. The hamburger she is so interested in was made of latex, and was undoubtedly the source of her subsequent neurosis about latex hamburgers.

Here she is as a teenager in North Carolina. I didn't know then that this little hellion would grow up to be the gentlest, most obedient and loyal dog I've ever known.

I remember clearly when this picture was taken in North Carolina. It was the time she sat still. When she was this age, I thought she would never calm down and never grow into those ears. She did calm down, but I'm still not sure about the ears.

Brandy and Linda in the back yard at our house in Florida. Brandy is about four years old here. Linda is considerably older.

One night when she was four, Brandy got out without our knowing. In the morning, she streaked across the front yard with three male dogs in tow. The result: seven puppies and a spaying operation. Corey, the puppy we kept, is the light brown one fighting for her place in life near Brandy's shoulder.

Corey was an odd puppy, and she is an even odder dog. The only light brown one in the litter, she often kept to herself and refused to join in the puppy fun. This is one of the only pictures we have of her with her brothers and sisters. She stuck out so much from the rest of the litter that my mother used to call her "Brownie."
